“Civil Society Actions for Common Justice and the Fight Against Corruption”
Tirana, November 25th 2024
On November 25, 2024, the conference **“Civil Society Actions for Shared Justice and Fight Against Corruption”** took place in Tirana — an important event within the EU-funded project *“Civil Society Against Corruption: From a Local Challenge to a European Response.”* Organized by the ALTRI Center, the Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC), and Friends of Europe, this conference highlighted the crucial role of civil society in strengthening justice and fighting corruption in Albania and the Western Balkans.
The conference brought together representatives of key justice institutions, including the HJC, HPC, SPAK, and the Ministry Against Corruption, to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the Justice Reform so far, particularly eight years after the start of the vetting process. At the center of the discussions was the need to enhance accountability, transparency, and institutional efficiency, as well as to align the reforms with citizens’ expectations.
An important moment of the event was the presentation of the Anti-Corruption Network of Civil Society Organizations, initiated by the ALTRI Center, along with the introduction of the digital platform http://www.rrjetiantikorrupsion.al, which aims to provide a collaborative and interactive space for civil society organizations and public institutions in the fight against corruption.
In three separate sessions, the conference addressed:
- The assessment of the vetting process and the criminal prosecution of judges and prosecutors who have been dismissed or have resigned;
- Lessons learned from the justice reform and its impact on good governance institutions;
- Achievements and challenges in the fight against corruption through monitoring and networking.
In conclusion, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation between civil society and state institutions, aiming to enhance the quality of justice and to build a shared culture of integrity and accountability.
The conference served not only as a platform for debate but also as a concrete moment of commitment to transform the fight against corruption into a shared social norm.
