CITIZENS FOR TRANSPARENCY: THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION IN THE ALBANIAN HEALTH SECTOR

Since December 26, 2024, the Together for Life association has begun implementing the project: “Citizens for Transparency: The Fight Against Corruption in the Albanian Health Sector”, with financial support from the Albanian Helsinki Committee and the European Union.

Duration: 12 months (until November 2025).

Geographical Coverage: Nationwide, with specific activities implemented in the cities of Elbasan, Berat, and Shkodër.

Project Objective: To increase transparency and accountability in the healthcare sector in Albania by promoting a culture of reporting corrupt practices.

Expected Results::

  • Reliable data generated on Albanian public perceptions of corruption in the healthcare sector.
  • Increased interaction and dialogue among key stakeholders on corruption issues affecting the healthcare sector.
    Enhanced understanding of how healthcare institutions respond to corruption complaints directed at them, identifying gaps and effective practices.
  • Increased awareness and engagement of the Albanian public in reporting corrupt practices within the healthcare sector.
  • Increased media attention on corruption in the healthcare sector.
  • At least 10,000 Albanian citizens reached through awareness-raising activities (online/in person).

Main Activities: The implementation of this project is organized into three main groups of activities:

  1. Assessment of Public Perception and Stakeholder Engagement:** Public Perception Assessment; Roundtable with key stakeholders to discuss the assessment findings; A press release.
  2. Monitoring the Anti-Corruption Response of Key Healthcare Institutions in the Country:** A monitoring report on how healthcare institutions handle complaints related to corruption; a roundtable to present the report’s findings; a press release; participation in a parliamentary hearing.

Mobilizing Citizens to Report Corruption in the Healthcare Sector :Promotion of the platform ,Transparency.com.al as a tool for reporting corruption in the healthcare sector; launch of a social media campaign; production and distribution of three media articles on corruption in the healthcare sector; organization of community forums in the cities of Elbasan, Berat, and Shkodër.
